My little boys spends hours playing with this set. He has a similiar set in wood but this set works better. Would recommend this for any child who is above four.

With 10 Grandkids between the ages of 3 to 15, it's sometimes hard to come up with "good" gift ideas. I gave Superstructs to a 5 year old Grandson, and not only did he love it, so did his 4 brothers and sisters. It's a great way to use ones imagination, and spans a large age group.

Review by Ben P. Stein for Superstructs Castle Set

I bought this set for my 3.5 year old. We have had a great time putting it together on several occasions in the last couple of weeks. Once put together, my son imagines adventures on it with the included soldiers. I am not very mechanically inclined but the instructions are excellent, well-illustrated and clear, and I had no problem with them. (My only quibble is that the orange sticks in the manual are a different shade of color from the ones in our set, and took a moment to identify.) At first my son just wanted to put together the foam walls, but the second time around he wanted to help constructing the walls of the castle. By imitating me, he was able to make duplicate versions of some simple structures rather well. He also figured out how to make the soldiers all by himself, with their arms, legs, helmets, swords and shields. Through doing the set I also was able to explain that you have to build the foundation first before you can put in the walls and floors, and the third time we made the castle, he was repeating this point to me! The drawbridge is really fun and well-done. It raises and lowers very smoothly. This particular set is really only designed to make the castle, so it's not really meant for making many different things like the other Superstruct sets. But this was our first one and I have no regrets. Assembly time was about 30 minutes the first time, but after you do it once it seems closer to 15 minutes. The pieces are high-quality, fit very well, and are generally a joy to handle and see. The castle looks great once assembled, and will impress any adults or kids who see it.

My son loves the movie night at the museum and wanted action figures, which they don't make. so I got this roman centurion to be "Octavius" from NATM. He loves it!

This was a gift for my 8 yr. old granddaughter. She had it on her Amazon wishlist. It arrived quickly. She is into fantasy, fairies, pixies, etc. and it was a figure in one of her many books. This helps put in 3D what she is reading about. It is a great toy for imaginative, creative play because, after reading about this character, she can create her own story.

I was surprised at the low durability of this product since I had also purchased the School House from Learning Resources at the same time. The figures of the School House were much more durable. After two hours of playing with this Royal Palace, one the arms of one of the figures fell off. The heads of the figures are very wobbly too.

However, I appreciated the fact that the figures are not all white people. The castle itself seems good.

My son got this for Christmas last year along with a bunch of the Playmobil Pirate stuff. He has played with these toys for hours and hours. He never gets tired of them. Even his 15 year old brother spent a couple of hours playing with it one day. One note of caution if you are considering buying any large Playmobil set...there are dozens of pieces. The hats, hair, weapons, accessories, etc. all come off. If your child tends to lose small pieces, these are not the toys for him.

Review by John B. Goode for Playmobil Viking Longboat
Rating:
This Viking ship was put out 3 years ago and is now very difficult to find as it is discontinued.

This is part of 2006's Viking line, and it's a great ship. It looks just the part and is well engineered. It has space for 6 Vikings at the oars, a steersman and a chief. The oarsmen grip the oars tightly and are gripped at the seats so they won't easily fall out. You can even hook the shields to the sides. And it has an attachment point for the Playmobil propeller underneath so it can move!

It's sturdy and easy to put together and only has a single mast and sail, which means less set up for the younger kids, unlike some of the more complicated pirate ships. When put together it's beautiful to look at and has great play value. A picture is worth a thousand words, so just look at the picture, how can you not love it?! Any kids or adult who has ever dreamed of owning a Viking ship can now own one. You can add on extra Vikings and go a-plundering!

Two recommendations. With the younger kids, you should probably leave off the rigging and keep all the accessories in the box first. You can play just as well without them. And with the decals, have the adults put them on as they are not easy to put on and once on, they are hard to take off.

A little primer on Playmobil if you don't know what they are.

1) All Playmobil products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great German company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands.

2) High educational and play value. You want your kids to learn about Romans? Buy them this set. Want them to know about Egyptians? Buy them next year when they get here.

3) Playmobil is not for any child under 7 or so, because most sets have a lot of small parts. But that's part of the fun of it for the older kids, up to 99 years old! You can have a lot of fun customizing your figures. For the younger kids, there's Playmobil 123.

4) The great secret about this ship and Playmobil in general is that there are tons of add ons. You can buy additional Vikings to beef up your army and enemies to fight with. If you have any questions about Playmobil there are several guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people.

5) In conclusion, this is a great product and if you've never had a Playmobil set, it's like being introduced to sugar if you've never had it before. Once you get hooked on Playmobil, you'll won't be able to help buying more Playmobil stuff. And I don't know if that'll be a good thing or not.

This is one of my playmobile toys! I love all the different things you can do with them! My Mother got me the Giant castle and I've loved playmobile ever since. This is my favorite, by far of the viking ones that I own! I highly recommend getting this for your son/daughter. I'm sure they'll absolutely love it
